"?Chelsea are reportedly closing in on current AC Milan and former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez as Antonio Conte looks to provide reliable back-up and healthy competition for Thiabut Courtois in the likelihood that Asmir Begovic leaves.
According to the Sun, Begovic is worried about his first-team chances behind Courtois, with Chelsea now on the verge of landing Lopez to play that second choice role instead.
As yet it remains to be seen where Begovic could go, but he has been linked with Everton in the past. The Toffees are known to be searching for another goalkeeper, despite the summer arrival of Maarten Stekelenburg, although Joe Hart seems to be the primary target.
At 34 years of age, Lopez would certainly bring plenty of experience to the Stamford Bridge dressing room having played at the top level in Spain, Italy and in Europe for the best part of a decade.
He began his career as a teenager with Real Madrid C, eventually stepping up to the B team and making a small handful of senior appearances before moving on to Villarreal for regular action.
Lopez spent five years at Villarreal, missing just one La Liga game over a four season stretch between 2008 and 2012. He later briefly joined Sevilla, but then soon returned to Real Madrid, famously keeping Iker Casillas out of the side in La Liga during the 2013/14 campaign.
The one-cap Spanish international moved to Milan in 2014 but was dropped in favour of teenage sensation Gianluigi Donnnarumma, then aged just 16, early last season.
