"?Club Brugge youth prodigy Bjorn Engels has dismissed interest from Borussia Dortmund as he would rather take small steps to elite level football, rather than dive in at the deep end.
The 21-year-old defender is regarded as one of the best Belgian players around in the country at the moment, so it is with no shock Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have been sniffing around.
Engels believes in joining a 'smaller' side before mixing in amongst some of the world's finest players would be more beneficial to his career.
Nevertheless, Engels says he is in no rush to leave Club Brugge, as he looks forward to competing in the Champions League for the first time in his career. Engels told Belgian news channel "?Het Laatste Nieuws: That [a move to Dortmund or Arsenal] is a bridge too far for me at the moment.
"A mid-table team [in a big league] would be the ideal next step for me and there have been some serious offers from such teams. I am staying calm, though. I only want to be informed about it when Club also agree to a transfer. I am 100 per cent focused on Club now and that will not change so long as I am here. Playing in the Champions League is a nice prospect as well. We will have to wait and see what happens."
The centre back has a wealth of experience of professional football already, playing 70 times for Brugge, despite only being 21-years-old. He has scored 10 ten times too, an impressive record for a centre half.
Ex-Belgium manager Marc Wilmots apparently had him lined up as Vincent Kompany's future replacement, which shows just how good he is.
