Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said on the deal: "André Schürrle is a German national player with outstanding offensive potential, and works hard repeatedly in the defence. Despite being only 25, he has extensive international experience.

"His quality will be very valuable for our team, and (this deal) ensures that our offence is completed."

Schurrle himself said on the move: "Borussia Dortmund is one of the top clubs in Europe with a strong and extremely exciting squad.

"I know from personal experience how much power BVB can develop through the interaction with fans and look forward now, to be able to experience everything for the first time - not as awestruck opponent, but as part of the whole.

"In the coming years I want to celebrate success with Borussia Dortmund and I will expect to start training and convince people that it was the right decision to sign me."
