Club Atletico Lanus president Nicolas Russo has praised defender Gustavo Gomez after his

€8.5m move to Italian giants AC Milan.

Milan continue to rebuild under new boss Vincenzo Montella, and Russo believes the Italian manager has acquired a top centre-half in Gomez.

"Is Gomez is ready for the jump from Argentina to Milan? Without a doubt,"? Russo told "?TuttoMercatoWeb.

"Gustavo is an extraordinary player, very strong and certainly ready to face this new adventure. His main strengths? His aerial game and his challenges.

"Gomez has a winning mentality and will be Milan's first choice defender for the next 10 years."

Russo also confirmed that Fiorentina, along with a host of Premier League clubs, were also chasing Gomez's signature.

"Milan, Fiorentina and several Premier League clubs wanted him," the Club Atletico Lanus president revealed.

On his move to Milan, Gomez told Milan TV and as quoted on "?Rossoneri Blog: "I'm very happy to have come and player for this club and I hope to repay the trust shown in me.

"It's a very important step in my career to come a play for a club so big. I will do everything to repay the confidence. It's a pride to be the first player from Paraguay to wear the shirt of Milan. Playing for Milan is a dream.

"I train well and I'm physically fit, I hope to be helpful for the team and try to win the derby! I'm a player with personality and I'm powerful like many other Paraguayans. This week my agent made me very happy when he told me that deal has been closed. I couldn't refuse it."

AC Milan kick-off their Serie A campaign at home against Torino on 21 August.
