"?Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed that he is looking for up to three new signings in the coming days as he aims to give his new club a fresh start after the disappointments of finishing 10th while defending champions last season.
"We (the staff) are talking with the club (board) and we know that the team needs reinforcing," Conte said as he spoke to the press for the first time since formally arriving at Stamford Bridge.
"I am sure that in the coming days we can reach our target to reinforce the team and get closer to the other clubs," the former Italian national boss added.
"In the coming days we might buy one, two or three players, I don't know. But (they must be) players who can reinforce us for the season. It will be very tough."
Chelsea have already captured young Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for a fee in excess of £30m, but are to still add players in other key positions such as in the centre of defence and in midfield.
So far, the club has had little luck with key targets. Radja Nainggolan appears set to stay with Roma, while only an enormous bid is likely to prise Leonardo Bonucci away from Juventus, as Manchester City are currently finding out. The N'Golo Kante saga also rumbles on.
For Conte, the obvious and immediate aim is get Chelsea back into the Champions League and competing for major honours after a disastrous 2015/16 campaign.
"For this club to compete, to get back to the Champions League and get back to winning the title, I know only one way. Work, work, work.
"The most important thing is to work and for me to give an identity to my team, bring my idea of football, my passion, my work, and transfer my passion to my players and fans."
