Wikki Hope To Stay Summit Of Leg Till End Of Season

Coach of Nigeria league leaders Wikki Tourists, Abdu Maikaba, has said his team hope to stay of the table till the final day of the season.

The Bauchi club are top of the table on 41 points and their championship credentials will be fully tested today when they welcome second-placed Enugu Rangers in a Titanic top-of-the-table showdown.

“There is no gong down for us, we wish to stay on top of the table till the end of the season,” a bullish Maikaba told AfricanFootball.com

“We resolved as a team that by the first round of the season we should be among the top two teams at least, but we ended up on top.

“And now we want to keep going on our way to our first league title.”

Maikaba aka ‘Audu Soccer’ further told AfricanFootball.com his team have made remarkable progress from last season when they were beaten to a continental ticket by Nasarawa United on goals difference.

“Our not scoring goals last season caused us dearly but this season we are the highest scoring team in the league and we also have the meanest defence,” he explained.

“We did not have a player among the leading scorers in the league, but now Godwin Obaje is joint top scorer.

“It has all been down to hard work and a collective unity of purpose as all those involved in the club are working towards a common goal and the chairman has been motivating the boys.”

The major injury doubt for Wikki in today’s showdown against rangers is midfielder Uche Martins, who has yet to fully recover from a long-term knee problem.
