Nigeria International, Victor Osimhen, club side Napoli have been really astounding this season in the UEFA Champions League.
Napoli who were not seen as odds on favorite by the bookies for the 2022/2023 UCL trophy have started to prove doubters wrong in incredible fashion.
Currently top of the pile in the Italian Serie A, the team from Naples are also doing the business in Europe’s grandest of stages as they sit on top of the Reds of Liverpool, Calvin Bassey’s Ajax and Rangers in Group A.
Napoli got their UCL campaign off in astonishing fashion with a 4-1 win over last season’s UCL finalist Liverpool at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday, 7 September. A match which saw Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, sustain a muscle injury which has kept him sidelined ever since.
Goals from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Giovanni Simeone and a brace from Piotr Zieli?ski was more than enough to see out the Reds of Liverpool.
Gli Azzurri went into their next UCL game against the former club of Nigeria Internationals Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo, Rangers, feeling confident.
Although without the services of Osimhen Napoli were able to dispatch 10 man Rangers 3-0.
Up next for the Partenopei were Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam. Calvin Bassey’s side went into the match on Tuesday 4 October on the back of a narrow 2-1 loss to Merseyside Reds Liverpool. Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus who got the equalizer for Ajax at Anfield opened the scoring at Amsterdam against Napoli.
However, that Kudus goal was the catalyst of an Ajax destruction as Napoli ran riot, humiliating the former European champions 6-1 who fell to 10 men when Tadic saw Red in the 71st minute.
Napoli currently have the most points, goals and shots in both Serie A and the Champions League this season.
Many of the Napoli faithful are feeling very confident about their team but some are not buying it yet and would want to make their decision till the deep end of the season.
One thing for sure is that with 13 goals scored and just 2 conceded in three games this campaign in the UCL, the Blues from Naples should not be underestimated.
With their attacking threat upfront with the likes of Giovanni Simeone, Piotr Zieli?ski, Georgian sensation khvicha kvaratskhelia and Nigeria International Victor Osimhen, Gli Azzurri are definitely a force to reckon with this season.
Napoli battle Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke’s Cremonese on Sunday 9 October. A match which could see the return of talismanic Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen.
