Anthony Ujah scores for Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen's Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah scored past his former team FC Koln to give his current employers a 1-0 win at home in the DFB Pokal.

Philipp Bargfrede had a chance early on for the home side as he took down the ball in the box and fired at goal but Timo Horn managed to make a good save from the former German Under-21 international.

Bremen then went ahead midway through the first half through Ujah, who controlled a cross before making a quick turn and blasting the ball beyond the reach of Horn.

In the second half, Anthony Modeste had a chance one-on-one against Felix Wiedwald and the Bremen goalkeeper stood his ground to deny the former Hoffenheim man.

Modeste then struck the post after he was played through in behind again but the Frenchman failed to pull his side level.

Florian Grillitsch almost made it two after he controlled the ball and struck it towards goal but Horn got down low to parry the ball away from danger.

It would be Modeste who had the chance again to equalise late on but Wiedwald denied him again to ensure Bremen's place in the last 16 of the German Cup.
