Welsh FA Reject Hull City Approach to Speak to Manager Chris Coleman

Published on: 01 August 2016

"?The Welsh FA have rejected an official approach from Hull City to speak to manager Chris Coleman, as the Tigers look to replace Steve Bruce after his resignation last month.

Bruce resigned from the role in July after leading the club back into the Premier League, with the complicated situation behind the scenes thought to be one of the main factors behind his departure.

Hull have been hit by a raft of injuries as they gear up for their return to the top flight, with the combination of their depleted squad and their lack of manager leaving them favourites to be relegated at the end of the season.

Working quickly to rectify at least one of those situations, the club have spoken to the FAW about the possibility of them stealing away Coleman - which was firmly rebuffed. The former Fulham boss appeared enthusiastic about his future with the national team after their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, saying: "It's been a privilege to be a part of it."

He continued: "Can we work on our facilities, can we find a better way to work with our under-age players. Can we improve our structure? Can we improve our young players? There is a long list of things to concentrate on, something to work on when we get back. We have to go to work immediately."

Told Chris Coleman is not taking Hull job. @FAWales fans can relax.

An FAW statement read: "The Football Association of Wales can confirm that it has received an official approach from Hull City FC for the services of manager Chris Coleman. Following discussions amongst leading figures within the association the approach has been rejected.

"Chris Coleman signed a new two year contract in May 2016 ahead of the UEFA European Championships in France and the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

"Everybody at the FAW are fully focused on the forthcoming World Cup qualifying campaign. The first match is against Moldova in Cardiff on September the 5th. Chris Coleman will announce the squad on August 25th."
