Watford have added to their striking options with the signing of Danny Welbeck on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old had fallen out of contract after leaving Arsenal whom he joined in 2014 for a reported £16m and made 126 appearances for the Gunners, most notably starting the 2017 FA Cup Final.
Welbeck began his career at Manchester United, making his debut as a 17-year-old and helping the club to win two Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford.
The striker also has 42 caps for England, scoring 16 times, with his international appearances including outings at both World Cup 2014 and World Cup 2018, as well as Euro 2012.
He's a real good lad to have around.
Tom Cleverley
Watford kick off their campaign at home to Brighton, a repeat of last season's opening weekend fixture, when Roberto Pereyra scored both goals in a 2-0 win for Javi Gracia's men.
A home win on Saturday is 10/11, with the draw 12/5 and the Seagulls priced at 3/1 but the game may come too early for the new man.
Speaking about the deal, midfielder Tom Cleverley, who played with Welbeck at United and with England, believes the club have pulled off a significant coup.
"He's a hard worker, he'll get himself in the best possible shape and I have no doubts he'll stay injury free," he told the club's official website. "He's really going to fit in here.
"It's not just me – every one of his teammates will say he's a real good lad to have around, so I can't wait for him to get started."
Watford are 33/1 to finish in the top six.
