WCQ: Rohr Comes Under Lawal's Attack Over Eluehi’s Snub

Published on: 02 November 2016

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Garuba Lawal has said that coach Gernot Rohr should take the blame for Tyronne Ebuehi’s decision not to honour the invitation extended to him to play for the national team.

Rohr, seeking to have more options for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie against Algeria November 12, invited the Ado Den Haag defender, but Ebuehi has told the Nigeria Football Federation that he won’t be coming to Nigeria any time soon.

“The question is; did Rohr speak to the player to know his mind before inviting him? We have to find out from Rohr how the name came up in the list,  it is an embarrassment. “

“They would have talked to him first to know which country he wants to play for. Ebuehi doesn’t know the African mentality, it is not his fault. “

“The coach (Rohr) is based in Germany. Germany to Holland is a short distance. The coach has to fly and meet him at his club. There is foul play somewhere,” said Lawal who played in the Dutch league with FC Roda.

Ebuehi was born in Haarlem, Netherlands to a Dutch mom and a Nigerian dad, therefore, he can represent the Super Eagles if the grandfather rule is invoked especially as he has never played for his country of birth.
