Wales Star Ruled Out of Georgia Clash Following Confirmation of Hamstring Injury

Published on: 08 October 2016

"?Wales and Swansea midfielder Joe Allen has been ruled out of his country's FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Georgia as a result of a hamstring injury, per "?Wales Online.

The match, set for Sunday, is considered a must-win for the Welsh, as it would give them much-needed breathing space atop Group D. They are currently tied on points with Serbia, Austria and the Republic of Ireland, with all four teams having four points each.

The Swansea man limped off following his wonder-goal against Austria on Thursday night. He had already hurt his hamstring playing for Stoke City in the Premier League, and apparently made things worse playing for his country this week.

Wales boss Chris Coleman is faced with a bit of a dilemma, as Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey is out injured as well. He will be forced to re-think his starting midfield, but is confident that he will find a way to get through without the injured pair.

"We might have to try and get what we need in a different way,"? Coleman lamented.

"That's a challenge. A lot of things said after the tournament about us going to the next level. I don't know what people expected from us to turn into Spain after six weeks without being together, but we were strong in Austria and our perspective is getting the job done."

"With the problem he's got you could play him or train him but it could go any minute. Something showed up in the scan, we have to be careful with it," he said with regards to Allen's injury.

""If he has a good week, he could play for Stoke next weekend but this one's too soon and we really need him for next month, so between now and then will be very important.

"I'm sure Stoke won't take a chance with him because he's a valuable player for them as well, but from our perspective we need him for the next one so let's hope he's looked after properly."

Meanwhile, team captain Ashley Williams believes in Wales' ability to cope with such situations, and said that whoever stepped up to fill in the role would do a proper job.

"Whoever comes in will step up and do a job as required. That's how it is with us.

"Two-years ago we played against Cyprus and Bosnia without Joe and Aaron and we will do so again.

"Whoever steps in will have been part of the group for a number of years and know what is required."
