Juventus’ interest in Virgil van Dijk is being viewed with scepticism because of the financial demands involved, while Real Madrid have also been linked with the Liverpool captain.
The 35-year-old remains a player of interest in Italy, but sources cited by Flashscore believe the Juventus speculation resembles earlier reports connecting Van Dijk with AC Milan. In both cases, the central question is whether an Italian club could afford the defender’s salary.
Van Dijk earns about £350,000 a week at Liverpool, where his contract runs until June 2027. That means the current campaign could potentially be his last at Anfield, although the financial terms required to sign him are making a move to Serie A appear unrealistic at present.
Juventus have been mentioned as a possible destination, but insiders have questioned how the club could construct a package capable of meeting Van Dijk’s demands. There remains no clear indication that the proposed transfer is financially viable.
AC Milan have been linked consistently with the Netherlands international, yet concerns about affordability have accompanied those reports whenever a move to Italy has been discussed. The same obstacle may not apply to Real Madrid to quite the same extent.
Real Madrid links add another possibility
The Spanish club have now emerged as another potential option for Van Dijk. Their recent recruitment of experienced Liverpool defenders has made the speculation more notable, despite the absence of any confirmed move.
Real Madrid signed Trent Alexander-Arnold as his Liverpool contract was approaching its end and later added Ibrahima Konate in a similar manner. That pattern has raised the possibility that Van Dijk could fit the profile of a player the club might consider targeting.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton for £75 million in January 2018. Since then, he has become one of the defining figures of the club’s recent era and a key part of the team during his time at Anfield.
His contract situation is now becoming increasingly important to the transfer picture. With the deal due to expire in June 2027, the possibility that this could be his final season with Liverpool is being considered when assessing his future.
For now, however, the Juventus links remain difficult to substantiate. The club’s ability to meet Van Dijk’s wage requirements is still the major barrier, leaving a move to Turin looking unlikely on the financial terms currently being discussed.
