Victor Mbaoma scores as APR FC beat Yanga FC in Mapinduzi Cup quarter final

Victor Mbaoma continued his brilliant start to the year after recording his name on the scorers sheet in his side APR FC's win over Yanga FC in the Mapinduzi Cup on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Mbaoma who was nominated for the league player of the month for December scored the second goal and his third in January for the first time invitees to defeat 2-time champions 3-1 in the quarter final at the Amaan Stadium.

Yanga opened score 23 minutes into the encounter through Jesus Moloko, but Sanda Soulei levelled matters after added time at the end of the first half.

The visitors came out better, dominating the second half as they got a penalty 4 minutes into the half. Victor Mbaoma stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the Lions the lead in the 50th minute.

Unfortunately, few minutes later the former Enyimba player could not continue play after an injury led to his substitution.

Substitute Shaiboub doubled the lead on the 79th minute, goal that was the icing on the cake to help the Rwanda Premier League reigning champions progress to the semi finals.

The semi final match will be between Mlandege and APR FC.

Mapinduzi Cup is an annual competition which forms part of the anniversary celebrations of the Zanzibar Revolution, which expelled the Sultan from power on January 12, 1964.

Clubs from Tanzania, Zanzibar participate in this competition as APR FC are participating in the competition for the first time.

Tanzanian side Azam FC are the most decorated club in the competition with a record five titles.
