Veteran Richard Kingson slams Razak Brimah for poor goalkeeping skills at AFCON

Published on: 28 January 2015

Veteran goalkeeper Richard Kingson has questioned the credentials of Ghana’s first choice Razak Brimah at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Kingson says the Spain-based goalkeeper’s mis-times his aerial challenges and badly positions himself between the sticks.

Brimah beat off competition from the experienced Fatau Dauda and Ernest Sowah to be handed the starting spot.

His abilities however came under the microscope after a 17th minute volley from Mandla Masango beat him.

Kingson scored him low marks despite Ghana reaching the quarterfinals.

”He doesn’t know how to position himself well in post. I also have a problem with his timing and calculation in making saves,” Kingson old Accra based Happy FM.

I agree with Kingston. Brimah is not a good goal keeper. Any ball that goes to him is dangerous.

Brimah is not a goalie we can trust. He may be good during penalties because of his structure but I doubt him a bit. Moreover, Black Stars should learn how to do short passes and also penetrate opponents through the middle. We cannot always rely on wingers to cross. South Africa saw that we were doing too much of that so they covered very well. I need the coach to come in and show them what to do when one trick isn't working.

Richard is afraid to criticize the goalkeeping coach, Yakubu! Kwarassay said you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that the man knows 'nothing'! It's time to give him the boot!

With all my respect, Kingson should keep his words to himself. Firstly, it is not the right time for former BS players to criticize current BS players in public. Secondly, has he ever made any comment about Dauda's performances during a competition? Dauda caused several severe mistakes (just think about the one against CR7 at the WC). I have never heard Kingson saying anything about this. Brimah is the best goalkeeper we have for the moment and he did well so far. The goals he has conceded at AFCON so far were certainly not at his fault!

What Kingson said is true. Brimah is not a good goal keeper. In my opinion, hes too stiff. The goal could've been avoided if he would've positioned himself. There was no point of Brimah trying to coming out when his defenders were infront of him at the 18 yard line. Nonetheless, I hope he learns from his amateur mistake. Olele should look into a coaching spot lol

Adebayo plz spare us some time on goalkeeping coach, he's not the one to show him how to b a good goalkeeper , don't Brimahhave one at his club I'm Spain , will u go blame him fir that bcos he's there more than he is with the black stars goalkeeping coach. Every time there's a mistake we try to find excuses that it's somebody fault

Who the jell are you to criticize Kingson. He has earn the right to say anything about an underperforming goalkeeper. His record speaks for itself. You Kwez should rather shut the hell up.

OGYA, am I not allowed to have and to express my own opinion on this story? Did I say anything about Kingson's record? Apart from one or two little mistakes (which did not even led to a goal against us) he did well. All the goals we conceded were not at his fault! Please explain why Brimah is underperforming? Do we have better goalkeepers at the moment? If Brimah is underperforming what is Dauda doing? Instead of you expressing your mind and explaining why you think different than me in a polite way, you are telling me to shut up? Who the f**k are you? My critic was constructive but you are possibly not intelligent enough to do so as well.

If Kingston thinks the scoring of goals is the fault of goal keepers, then he should take the blame for all goals scored against Ghana during his days in posts

Kingston, so scoring of goals in a soccer match is always the fault of the goalkeepers? Count the number of your faults while in post for Ghana.

I can hardly understand y We always have uncouth people with foul mouth comments on Ghanaian websites. Folks can't we comment without insults n bad language? Benny n Yahya what kind of people r u? Is that how u were brought up? What is the insult for? Y can't u show maturity for once. With this bad attitude, wat would people think of Ghana. Make ur point n stop the unecessary insults.

Brother Kingston, please encourage him and not criticsze. I Remember Ghana versus Uruguay after Sule, has given as a 1 goal lead. Diago Furlan goal was more than 50 yards free kick, beat you in post which was very poor of you yet you were our best at that time so please learn to encourage the young once then critics.
