Vardy managing injury issues

Published on: 22 December 2018

Leicester City's former England international striker Jamie Vardy has confirmed that managing a groin problem has hampered him in recent weeks.

The 31-year-old says that undergoing surgery in not necessary at the moment, but Vardy accepts that he is unable to play as full a part for the Foxes as he would like to.

I won't need an operation, but it is just about managing it.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's just about managing it.

"Obviously I want to play as many games as possible, but playing the 90 minutes on Saturday there was no way it was going to get risked again (against Man City) on Tuesday with the chance of it putting me out long-term.

"I won't need an operation, but it is just about managing it, which is what we've done after playing last Saturday - with a full week until my next game.

"It's been managed in the right way and we've got a great physio department and support staff in the background.

"It is frustrating, but we pick up niggles all the time and, if it's best for me to miss a game to make sure I am not out long-term, then that is what we have to do."

Vardy has scored five Premier League goals so far this season, although three of those have come from the penalty spot, with his last goal from open play having come in a 3-1 home win over Huddersfield Town three months ago.

Vardy is priced at 3/1 to score at any time at Chelsea on Saturday, with Leicester 1/3 to lose the game and 9/2 to earn a draw at Stamford Bridge.
