Unknown lawyer seeks to scuttle Ghana FA presidential elections with injunction
GFA president Nyantakyi is seeking a third terms in office

An unknown Accra-based lawyer is seeking to place an injunction on next month's Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential election in Tamale.

John Kwame Quayson, who also claims to be a football administrator, is partnering football club Dynamic Heroes of Winneba to stop the election from taking place.

Despite the notion that he already placed an injunction on the election, the statement of claim is what has been seen with no evidence yet that the matter has been taken to court.

There is not writ of summons and Suit Number showing that the matter has not yet appeared before the courts, similar to the threats from King Faisal FC made before last year's GFA congress it claiming an injunction which was defied by the federation, paving the way for the league to take place.

The statement of claim is dated Monday, 13th July, 2015 but did not appear in court by Tuesday night.

However, the statement of claim wants to overturn the order of the elections with the Presidential election taking place last after all the elections have been held.

The legal suit could also hit a snag with the statement of claim claiming it is acting on behalf of members of the GFA even though all the rest of the members of the GFA GHANAsoccernet.com has spoken to have denied asking them to act on their behalf.

As it stands now the Presidential election starts on August 17 before the other elections for Executive Committee positions are held.

The GFA opened nominations for the position of president on Monday ahead of the elections in Tamale next month.

According to the election itinerary, interested persons have until Friday June 17 to fill and submit their forms to the Ghana FA secretariat of any of the Regional Football Association offices.

The electorates will gather in Tamale on August 18 for the extra-ordinary congress to elect the next president of the body.

Incumbent president Kwesi Nyantakyi, who has already served two terms, is expected to win overwhelmingly for a new mandate.

It is however unclear whether he will be running unopposed. So far, a female coach Ofeibea Ramatu is the only candidate to openly declare her intention to contest.

Other names that popped up last week were Fred Pappoe and Randy Abbey, former vice president and spokesperson for the Ghana FA respectively. However, both later denied the reports.

Four years ago, Nyantakyi went unopposed after all the aspiring candidates got disqualified after the electoral committee said they failed to meet the requirements.

Nyantakyi’s influence has grown beyond Ghana after recently retaining his Caf executive committee seat.

There will be other election later this year for the Regional Football Association and the District Football Association chairmen, as well as the composition of the national, regional and district executive committees.
