Uganda v DR Congo: Both teams backed to score at 2.03 in friendly rematch

Published on: 05 October 2026

Uganda and DR Congo meet again at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on Monday, three days after the Cranes won the first of their two friendlies 2-0. The match is scheduled for 13:00 GMT on 5 October 2026, with NCI Sport consultant and Radio Nostalgie UEFA Champions League presenter Nasser Eddy predicting both sides will score, a betting option priced at 2.03.

Uganda have emerged as one of the surprise teams of the current international window. They top Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying Group H after holding Tunisia to a 1-1 draw in Tunis and beating Libya 1-0 at Hoima City Stadium.

Paul Put’s side then defeated DR Congo on Friday, underlining their improvement since going out in the first round of the most recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they faced Nigeria and Tunisia.

Captain Denis Onyango and his team-mates have looked positive in attack, scoring equally in the first and second halves across their past three matches. Uganda averaged more than seven shots per game in their two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures last week, although they also conceded more than five corners and 13.5 shots per match. Their defensive vulnerability was not exposed by a much-changed DR Congo side in the opening game.

Sebastien Desabre’s team made wholesale changes on Friday, with Theo Bongonda and Gedeon Kalulu the only likely regular starters included. The Leopards are expected to field a stronger line-up in the second match.

DR Congo began their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign with wins over Equatorial Guinea, 2-0 at home, and Zimbabwe, 2-1 away. Chancel Mbemba, Yoane Wissa and Samuel Moutoussamy could all feature on Monday. Wissa scored twice and provided an assist during qualifying, while Moutoussamy scored against Zimbabwe.

Wissa has recovered from a difficult season affected by injury, which kept him out of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He has since returned to form with Newcastle and DR Congo, scoring in each of his country’s opening two qualifiers. His absence from the starting XI on Friday was felt in attack and his expected return should strengthen the Leopards.

DR Congo have scored in both halves during their strong qualifying start, with three of their five goals coming before half-time and two after the interval. They have won no more than four corners in either match.

Uganda lead the overall head-to-head record, winning six of seven meetings in all competitions. DR Congo’s only victory came in 2005, a 4-0 World Cup qualifying win. Uganda won 2-0 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, while DR Congo claimed a 1-0 friendly victory in Douala in June 2023.

The draw is priced at 3.61, with a 1-1 final score available at 6.5. A total of fewer than five corners and a Yoane Wissa goal are also predicted. Odds may change.
