U-17WWC: Flamingoes' opponent New Zealand release squad list, poised to make history

New Zealand has revealed their final squad list ahead of the women's under 17 world cup after arriving India the venue of the competition.

The team who play the Nigeria women's under 17 team in their second group game of the tournament are seeking to make history with great talents.

The New Zealanders were opted for as representatives of the Oceania continent following no qualifiers due to the Covid pandemic.

The team's coach, Leon Birnie is looking forward to a great competition for the team.

"We’re pleased with the squad we’ve assembled for this World Cup,” says Birnie.

“This is a talented squad with good depth across all positions, and we’re excited to see them make their mark on the world stage.”

According to the gaffer, apart from the developmental goal for the girls, the team also aim to get out of the group.

“Our purpose with this age group is to develop players and enable them to get experience against some of the best in the world in their age group,” he says. “This will help them to develop so that in future they can make that step up to the U-20s and Ford Football Ferns.

“The second goal, that the players have identified for themselves, is to get out of the group and be the second ever New Zealand team to progress beyond the group stage at this tournament", the Federation media stated.
