Twitter Reacts to the News That Sam Allardyce Has Stepped Down as England Manager

Published on: 26 September 2016

After just 67 days in charge, Sam Allardyce has officially left his post as England manager. The FA confirmed the news with a statement on Tuesday night, ending a nightmare 24 hours for the former West Ham and Sunderland boss after explosive Monday night revelations when The Daily Telegraph's sting operation showed video evidence of Allardyce offering advice on how to circumvent the FA's rules on transfers.

As you may expect, Big Sam is Big News right now on the Twitter-sphere. Here's how people have been reacting to the news that he has left 'by mutual agreement.'

Sam Allardyce is now a guaranteed quiz answer for the next 20 years.

Doubt he'll be a pointless answer though.

The England team needs a new man to spearhead the charge towards the 2018 World Cup. Perhaps this eccentric, gloriously bearded Frenchman who once ruled Old Trafford could be of assistance?

Don't worry, England fans, we've already found Sam Allardyce's replacement... #CantoYes https://t.co/RKK3FBjnW4

People are crying foul over The Telegraph's investigation, but perhaps they should read below. Strong public interest in the story. Clear justification for sting operation.

Initially thought seemed element of entrapment to investigations but this is a strong argument justifying approach: https://t.co/ODdvUv5bIp

"?But just imagine what The Telegraph's investigations team would find on the legendarily disreputable Mayor of Springfield, Diamond Joe Quimby. That would be some read.

I propose Brian Cox to play Big Sam. Hodgson is a more difficult one to think up. Maybe Rhys Ifans with a load of prosthetics...

At least it looks like Allardyce has an alternative career to fall back on. pic.twitter.com/RRymyFsNkR

So long then, Sam. But no, his 100% record of one game managed does not give him the best record as England manager. See below (sorry):
