Trippier happy with Atleti start

Published on: 28 July 2019

England right-back Kieran Trippier says he has settled in better than expected to his new surroundings at Atletico Madrid this summer.

Trippier, who enjoyed a strong 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Three Lions, surprised many by agreeing a three-year deal with the La Liga outfit after what was a difficult final season with Tottenham Hotspur.

With former Chelsea forwards Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata also playing at Atleti, Trippier says the pair have helped him settle in ahead of his first campaign in the Spanish top flight.

"It's been a lot easier than I expected," Trippier said. "The lads have been unbelievable with me. Since I've been through the door they've welcomed me with open arms, the coach as well.

"Especially those two - they've been brilliant with me, Morata and Costa. They've been explaining to me what it means to play for Atletico and what it means to the fans."

Atletico Madrid are 12/1 to win La Liga this season, while reigning champions Barcelona are 4/6 to retain their title.

Atleti's rivals Real Madrid are 6/4 to lift the La Liga trophy.
