Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both keeping very close tabs on Ajax defensive starlet Jurrien Timber. Both clubs have been following Timber for nearly two-years, with both clubs' scouts have issuing glowing reports on him since the turn of the year in particular.

The 20-year-old defender has become a key player for Ajax under head coach Erik ten Hag, having made his big breakthrough last season in helping them win the Eredivisie title. Timber also made his debut for the Dutch national team earlier this year and now has six caps to his name.

Sources have told 90min that a number of Premier League clubs have been watching Timber closely – but most recently it is Chelsea and Spurs showing the most interest in his progress.

Both clubs see him as being of a similar ilk to William Gallas – a defender who enjoyed successful spells at both London clubs. Timber is contracted to Ajax to 2024 and, although he is in no hurry to depart the Dutch capital, he is aware of the interest emerging in him.
