Tottenham's Christian Eriksen Backs Viktor Fischer Middlesbrough Move

Published on: 29 May 2016

"?Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen has backed international compatriot Viktor Fischer's move to newly-promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough.

Denmark international Eriksen was speaking to Inside Futbol, as quoted by "?HITC.com, after Fischer agreed to complete a £3.75m transfer from Ajax to Aitor Karanka's side ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

And the Spurs play-maker insisted that the 21-year-old had made a good decision in heading to the Premier League from the Dutch Eredivisie club.

When asked if the move was positive, 24-year-old Eriksen said: "It is positive. I spent some time talking to him about what he wants.

"I think, like him, that this is good."

Left winger Fischer initially joined Ajax's Under-19 side from FC Midtjylland Under-19s for a fee of around £1m in the summer of 2011.

The eight-times capped Danish international progressed through the ranks at the Amsterdam Arena and made his competitive first-team debut in October 2012.

Since that time, Fischer has gone on to appear on 111 occasions for the 33-times Dutch champions, scoring 33 goals and laying on 19 assists for his team-mates, as well as winning two Dutch league titles and the Dutch Super Cup under then-manager Frank de Boer.

The wide-man enjoyed a stand-out 2015/16 campaign, scoring on 12 occasions in 45 appearances in all competitions as Ajax were pipped to the league title by PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the season.

His form alerted Boro boss Karanka, who is looking to strengthen his squad as the Riverside Stadium-based club compete in the Premier League for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

Middlesbrough confirmed their promotion to England's top tier after finishing second in the Championship, four points behind eventual champions Burnley.
