Scottish Premier League have targeted signing Manchester United's Ghanaian defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah on loan in the summer, according to reports in the Scottish press.

The Dutch U17 skipper joined United just this season from Ajax Amsterdam but Celtic boss Ronny Deila has already included him in his transfer plans for the upcoming season.

Fosu-Mensah may be a centre-back by trade, but he can also play as a defensive midfielder and it is in that second position that he has really started to excel at United.

He has a long way to go, but it is telling that Louis van Gaal – who knows Dutch football inside-out – made the teenager one of his first signings after taking over at United.

And if the time is deemed right to send Fosu-Mensah out on loan next season, there are few managers who can be trusted with youth prospects better than Celtic’s Deila.

Fosu was born to Ghanaian immigrant parents in the Netherlands and has represented the country of his birth but could switch nationality to play for Ghana at senior level.
