Former Italy international Lorenzo Insigne has thrown his support behind Victor Osimhen's surprise loan move to Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The 25 year-old had been linked with Al-Ahli and Chelsea on transfer deadline day, but ultimately opted for a season-long deal with Galatasaray.
Insigne, who played alongside Osimhen at Napoli, believes the Nigerian striker made the right decision.
"I didn't expect it, but Victor is smart and I'm sure he made his own choices," Insigne told Il Corriere dello Sport.
Insigne expressed delight at Osimhen's reunion with former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens at Galatasaray.
"I'm happy for him, especially because he'll play with Mertens. I can see that they have fun together," Insigne added.
The Italian winger refused to speculate on Osimhen's failed return to Napoli, instead focusing on the positives of his move to Turkey.
"I don't know what happened with Napoli, but Victor deserves this opportunity," Insigne said.
Osimhen's move to Galatasaray has raised eyebrows, but Insigne's endorsement suggests the Nigerian striker has made a shrewd decision.
Galatasaray will hope Osimhen's partnership with Mertens yields goals and success in the Turkish Super Lig and Champions League.
