Tabriz: Thailand’s Thawatchai Rairat is aiming for a better performance, despite the Southeast Asians opening their AFC U-20 Futsal Championship IR Iran 2019 Group B campaign with a 4-2 win over Kyrgyz Republic.
Thawatchai was instrumental in Thailand’s win on Friday, as he broke the stalemate in the fifth minute, before Kyrgyz scored two back-to-back goals a few minutes later.
However, Thawatchai struck again three minutes from the half-time break to level the score.
“This was not our 100 percent performance,” Thawatchai admitted.
“We still need to adapt to the conditions here in Islamic Republic of Iran, but we weren’t nervous heading into the match against Kyrgyz Republic. “I do believe I can play much better.”
Thailand will play their final Group B tie against Lebanon on Sunday, and a win will assure them a place in the quarter-finals as group winners.
Lebanon were quarter-finalists in 2017, and will be tough opponents but Thawatchai believes they can walk away with a win.
“They (Lebanon) are strong with really good futsal skills, but we are happy after this win (over Kyrgyz Republic) and I think we can play much better than this.”
