Terem Moffi Seeks Contract Termination After Supporters’ Assault at OGC Nice

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has formally complained to the Professional Football League’s legal committee, seeking the termination of his contract with OGC Nice after spending six weeks on sick leave due to an assault by club supporters, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

According to French outlet L’Équipe, Moffi’s legal action is based on the club’s alleged failure to guarantee his safety and protect his well-being. The Professional Football League’s legal committee is expected to examine the case on Thursday, a decision that could have serious implications for both the player and the Ligue 1 side.

The incident comes amid a turbulent period for Nice, a club that has been grappling with several internal crises in recent weeks. However, the attack on players has emerged as one of the most serious issues, raising concerns about player welfare and crowd control.

The situation reportedly spiralled out of control on the night of November 30, following Nice’s disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Lorient. Frustrated supporters allegedly confronted players outside the club’s training ground, creating a hostile and dangerous environment.

During the confrontation, several players were targeted, with Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi and teammate Jérémie Boga subjected to verbal abuse, spitting, and physical assault. The severity of the incident left both players traumatised, forcing them to go on medical leave.

Sources indicate that both Moffi and Boga are still dealing with the psychological effects of the attack, leading to extensions of their sick leave. For Moffi, the incident appears to have irreparably damaged his relationship with the club, prompting his decision to seek an early exit from his contract.

The outcome of Thursday’s legal review will determine whether the Nigerian forward is granted a contract termination, a ruling that could set an important precedent regarding player protection and club responsibility in French football.
