Temple Emekayi becomes Rivers United new captain

Rivers United center back, Temple Emekayi has been announced the captain of the club by Coach Finidi George, Nigeriasoccernet.com has gathered.

Emekayi was made the substantive Captain of the team after wearing the armband for a while as an acting captain.

He has been in the acting capacity since the departure of the club's former captain, Nyima Nwagua and he is now set to lead the team throughout the season.

“Temple Emekayi has been named the new captain of Rivers United ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign.

“With the Pride of Rivers scheduled to face Katsina United in a matchday 6 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday, Technical Manager Finidi George confirmed that the dependable center-back will take the armband, having led the team since Nyima Nwagua’s departure and captained the side during the opening five matches this season,” a statement from the club read on Wednesday.

Emekayi who joined the club five years with 98 matches under his belt will be assisted by left-back Paul Odeh.
