Nathan Tella was in action as Bayer 04 Leverkusen held FC Bayern Munich to a 1–1 draw in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Nigeria national football team winger came on for Ernest Poku in the 87th minute and delivered a composed late cameo for Leverkusen. Tella has now made 10 appearances and registered three assists for the German champions this season.
Leverkusen took the lead early in the encounter when Montrell Culbreath dispossessed Luis Díaz before launching a swift counterattack that ended with Aleix García firing a powerful effort past Sven Ulreich, aided by a deflection off Jonathan Tah.
The hosts nearly doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when Culbreath curled an effort just wide of the far post.
Bayern responded after the break as Díaz finished calmly from a pass by Michael Olise to restore parity for Vincent Kompany’s side. However, the Colombian forward was later shown two yellow cards in the space of 10 minutes, leaving Bayern under pressure in the closing stages.
The visitors’ problems worsened when Jackson was also sent off, reducing Bayern Munich to nine men. Despite the numerical advantage late in the game, Leverkusen were unable to find a winning goal.
