It was not a good day in office for Nigeria Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who fell short for his Nottingham Forest side against Newcastle in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Awoniyi missed the crucial spot kick, as Nottingham Forest fell to a penalty shootout defeat against Newcastle in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

After a pulsating encounter which ended 1-1 at full time, the Reds fell 3-4 on penalties to the Magpies at the City Ground.

Willock drew the first blood for Newcastle, scoring in the minute before Jota's equaliser in the second half.

To the penalties, Forest's Hudson-Odoi scored, Newcastle's Isak scored, and Forest's  Milenkovi?  also scored before Newcastle Joelinton's penalty was saved.

Neco scored to make it 3-1 for Forest before Guimarães scored his to make it 3-2.

Unfortunately, Sangaree missed his spot kick for Forest before Gordon Scored for Newcastle to make it 3-3.

Awoniyi was next and it was quite a strange take for Nigerian who missed as Newcastle progressed to the next round.
