Tabakovic strike earns Salzburg crucial Europa League win in Sofia

FC Salzburg began their Europa League campaign with a valuable 1-0 victory away to Levski Sofia, securing three points from their opening fixture.

The Bulgarian side defended in a compact shape during the early stages, limiting Salzburg’s opportunities and forcing the visitors to be patient. That approach eventually paid off for the Austrian team, who turned their first-half pressure into the decisive goal before the interval.

Haris Tabakovic broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. The Salzburg forward capitalised on an opening in the Levski Sofia defence before beating the opposing goalkeeper to score the only goal of the match.

Levski Sofia increased the pressure after half-time as they looked for an equaliser, but Salzburg’s defence held firm. The visitors resisted the Bulgarian side’s attempts to level the score and preserved their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The result gives FC Salzburg an ideal start to their European campaign, with three points secured on the road.
