A statement on their official website, Leicester City Women have confirmed that Super Falcons hopeful Ashleigh Plumptre has been appointed as assistant captain of the club, ahead of their maiden Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.
Plumptre will share vice captaincy responsibilities with McManus, while Sophie Barker has been confirmed as the new captain following Holly Morgan’s retirement.
The 23-year-old was an influential member of the Leicester City squad that secured promotion to the Women's Super League at the end of last season, playing nineteen games in total including 18 starts.
The Anglo-Nigerian won Leicester City Women's Players' Player of the Season for 2020-2021 at the Club's End of Season Awards.
A former England youth teamer, Plumptre has pledged her international future to the Super Falcons and made her unofficial debut in a friendly against Slovenian side NK Olimpija Ljubljana in July 2021.
For the upcoming season which kicks off on September 4, she will be wearing the number 22 on the back of her jersey.
