Super Eagles ready to face England at Wembley

Published on: 20 December 2017

Almost 24 years after they made a good show in one of the world’s iconic stadium, it has been confirmed that the Super Eagles will face England again at the Wembley Stadium.

The Super Eagles lost narrowly by a lone goal to the Three Lions in 1994 and on June 2, 2018, they will have another chance to prove their worth ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that the Eagles are going to take on the Three Lions of England at the Wembley Stadium on June 2, 2018.

It was gathered that England settled to play against Nigeria after initially considering facing Ghana or Senegal, who they could face in the last-16 depending on their standings in the groups.

But the Super Eagles were emerged as the preferred choice chiefly because of the popular following the Nigerian national team enjoys.

After playing the Super Eagles and another yet to be confirmed friendly, Gareth Southgate and his England squad will fly to Russia and to their training base in Repino, a town just north of St Petersburg, towards the Finnish border.

Meanwhile, the NFF boss has also revealed that another international friendly match has been fixed for May 27 for the Super Eagles but did not confirm the country.
