The gaffer of Nigeria Professional League(NPFL) side Akwa United Deji Ayeni says the Super Eagles B team should not be criticized for their 2-0 loss to Ghana in the first-leg of the African Nations Championship(CHAN) qualifier in Cape Coast, instead they should be encouraged.
The manager of outgoing 20/21 NPFL cchampions explained that the result could have been different if the Nigeria was as prepared as their opponents, Ghana.
The Black Galaxies camped in Austria and played multiple friendlies ahead of the game on Sunday including an invitational tournament and it paid off.
Ghana dispatched the B Eagles comfortably, while they look to complete the damage in the second-leg fixture at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
With the qualification ticket for next year’s African Nations Championship at stake, the Black Galaxies are now favorites to go through.
However, the Akwa United boss also drew comparisons with the Super Eagles’ failed World Cup qualification bid against the Black Stars.
‘If the main national team couldn’t complete the task of qualifying for the world cup against Ghana, the same rival opposition, then less should be expected of the home based eagles,’ Ayeni told FL.
