Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has tendered an apology to Nigerians for his team's inability to qualify for the knockout stages of the on-going African Nations Championship in here in Rwanda.
Oliseh's men fell to a 1-0 defeat to Guinea in their final group game to fin8sh third in Group C, thereby crashing out. They had defeated Niger 4-1 in their opening game and drawn 1-1 against group leaders Tunisia.
The defeat was Oliseh's first competitive loss as Nigeria coach and he defended of his team, stating that his boys did their very best.
"We apologise to Nigerians for this loss, we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best," Oliseh said after the loss in Kigali. The defeat was Oliseh’s second overall loss in charge of the senior national team after his side lost to a 2-0 defeat to Congo in an international friendly in Belgium last year.
In all eleven games in charge of the Super Eagles, Oliseh has managed five wins, four draws and two defeats.
