Sterling began the goal barrage in the 21st minute. Gabriel Jesus scored the second just before the break, and a second-half brace from Sterling sandwiched Bernardo Silva's strike to complete the scoring.

The win gives Pep Guardiola's men 72 points from 35 games, 21 points off champions Liverpool who drew earlier in the day. Brighton remain in 15th place with 36 points.

City will next host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday. Brighton, who are two points clear of relegation, will travel to Southampton on Thursday.
