Stan Collymore Tells Burnley's Sean Dyche it Would Be Lunacy to Take Aston Villa Job

Published on: 09 October 2016

"?Former Aston Villa forward Stan Collymore has suggested that Burnley boss Sean Dyche would be crazy to take up the managerial job at the West Midlands club.

This comes in the wake of Roberto di Matteo's axing last week. The Italian - who led Chelsea to a Champions League final win over Bayern Munich in 2012 - was given his marching orders following a terrible four-month spell at Villa, during which he could only manage one win.

Villa are desperate to climb back to England's top flight after being relegated last season, and decided to part ways with Di Matteo in order to stop the rot, which has them at 19th place in the Championship.

Club owner Tony Xia has already identified Steve Bruce as his top target, yet Dyche - who has an excellent record when it comes to taking teams up, having done it with the Clarets twice in the last three years - was said to be in contention as well.

Bruce has already held talks with Villa and looks set to take over as manager in short order. However, Villa fans have also asked Collymore his thoughts on Dyche taking the job, via Twitter.

The ex-striker replied by saying that Dyche would be insane to trade Burnley for Villa at this point, given their Premier League status and club structure.

@StanCollymore what is your opinion on Sean Dyche, Stan - did you think those links were realistic? I value your opinion

He'd be insane to join us. He's got a solid squad, a respected board and structure. And Premier League! https://t.co/bMCrmSnghN
