German Bundesliga II side St.Pauli have  expressed their satisfaction over the ability to tie midfielder Afeez Aremu to the club on a long-term contract, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.

Aremu’s initial contract was due to end in June, but the club successfully extended his stay with them.

“We’re happy to have reached an early agreement with Afeez to continue our association,” said the sport director of the Bundesliga 2 club, Andreas Bornemann.

“On arriving in Hamburg he took a while to get used to the new league and the football we want to play, but he has made great strides in his development since then and is an important part of our future plans,” he continued.

“Afeez is one of the best tacklers in the squad. His defensive qualities were obvious from the start, but he’s also improved on the ball, in particular,” added coach Fabian Hurzeler.

“We see more potential for him in this area, not least because he has a strong desire to develop his game, so I’m delighted he’s continuing his journey with us.”

The former CHAN Eagles and Flying Eagles star vowed to repay the confidence the German club have in him.

“Hamburg has become a second home for me and my family, which is why I’m happy to continue playing for St. Pauli in the years to come,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the club for their support and trust, which I aim to repay with good performances.”

The 23-year-old Nigeria star has made a total of 48 Bundesliga 2 and five DFB Cup appearances for St.Pauli.

This season, he has featured in twelve competitive matches, nine of them from the start.
