Sporting Lagos is embarking on a rebuilding phase in the Nigeria National League (NNL) after a disappointing relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) just a year after promotion.
The club's brief stint in the top flight ended with a demotion back to the lower division, prompting an exodus of players, with fewer than 15 remaining.
According to a club media team source, Sporting Lagos has opted not to purchase a slot back into the NPFL, instead choosing to navigate the challenges of the NNL.
Head coach, Abdullahi Biffo, who took the reins with just six games remaining in the 2023/24 season have walked away from his post.
The club's struggles have come as a disappointment to Lagos football fans, who had hoped Sporting Lagos would fill the void left by MFM FC's relegation. Instead, the team is starting anew in the lower division.
