South Africa coach Shakes Mashaba: We must beat Ghana
Shakes Mashaba

South Africa coach Shakes Mashaba admits his side will have to beat Ghana if they are to stand a chance of progressing to the AFCON quarter-finals.

Bafana Bafana claimed the lead against Senegal on Friday evening, after Oupa Manyisa had fired into the bottom-right corner at the start of the second half.

However, Senegal managed to draw level on the hour mark as centre-back Kara Mbodji got above his marker to send a towering header into the back of the net.

It was South Africa who created most of the chances, though, with alack of cutting edge in front of goal ultimately proving costly.

The result leaves Mashaba's men facing an uphill battle as they will have to beat Ghana to keep themselves in the hunt for second place in Group C.

Reflecting on what was ultimately a disappointing result, Mashaba said: "Again we created more chances than the opposition, we should have won the game, but we are still in with a chance.

"If you look at all the teams' standings on the log, it's a must win our game against Ghana.

"The toughest thing will be the margin, it should be no less than three goals, maybe that other team loses and we win, that puts us on four points, but it's going to be important for us to win that game."

Mashaba, meanwhile, admitted that his side's profligacy in front of goal was a concern.

He added: "We are the team that has created more chances but converted a few. We should have scored no less than six goals in both matches.

"The question of scoring, it's about finishing, especially from the second ball. How many chances did we have? But we still wanted to go behind the defenders. It's a concern."

We must be careful b'cos they will score and what about us? No pressure, we need to slow the game and make sure we defend in numbers and what more take our chances.

The good news for Ghana is the fact that a draw in the South African game will see ghana through provided there is a win or draw for Senegal. For south Africa their of qualification is not only dependant of winning the Ghana game but hope that senegal will do their work for them. this to me is an advantage to the stars since there will desparate to win their last game! The stars will have to play that game as if we also need to win that game.In football anything can work to your advantage. If ghana scores first that will be a huge mountain for the Bafana Bafana to climb since that can bring down their morale. So i will ask the man to approach the game with all seriousness it desires

It sounds like this SA coach was recently discharged from a mental retardation facility. Beating Ghana by a margin of three goal? Sick ass!

Guys let the game end before we talk I am extremely cautious in this game. Do you remember what Zimbabwe dI'd to us in 2006. After they found themselves in same situation that south Africa finds it self.

Our players are individually skillful but individuals playing as a collective team. Bafana players are everywhere on the pitch with no discipline. Plus Judging from the game we gave Algeria, Mr Mashaba please just pray your boys get some of the ball to play.
