ESPN FC's Steve Nicol says Manchester United should focus their efforts on keeping David de Gea happy before splashing the cash for Jan Oblak.

Gab Marcotti shares his thoughts on where David De Gea might end up if he decides to leave Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United are ready to present David De Gea with an improved offer in a bid to keep the Spain international at Old Trafford beyond June 2020, a source close to the player revealed to ESPN FC.

A reported target of Paris Saint-Germain, De Gea recently turned down a five-year contract worth £350,000-a-week from United.

Negotiations over a new contract have been ongoing for 18 months and appeared to have stalled, leading to reports in England that United were prepared to pay De Gea millions to leave this summer in order to cash in on his transfer instead of the player leaving next summer for free.

However, a source close to the player said United don't want to sell De Gea at any price, that they are not prepared to transfer him and that the club is going to offer the player a new contract renewal proposal.

De Gea reportedly earns £240,000 a week, half of what club teammate Alexis Sanchez reportedly earns.

PSG are looking for a goalkeeper after parting company with Gianluigi Buffon earlier this month. The French champions are the only club that could afford to pay a fee for De Gea, and his wages. Moreover, a move to PSG would allow De Gea the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season.

He is currently on holiday after enduring a difficult 2019 on the pitch.

The 28-year-old made a number of errors in the second half of this season, including one in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on April 28 that dented sixth-placed United's chances of finishing in the top four.

He is still considered a key player for coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since joining United in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid, he has made 362 appearances for the club.

He is the most veteran player in the team and admitted earlier in the season he was "very happy" at Manchester United.

De Gea apologised to frustrated Untied fans on twitter for their below par performances late in the season which forced United to settle for Europa League football next season.

The former Atletico goalkeeper looks to have lost his No. 1 spot in the Spain squad with Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga having started in the national team's past three games, including this month's Euro 2020 qualifying wins at Faroe Islands and Sweden.
