Liverpool have rejected the chance to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, a source has told ESPN.

Gordon, 23, is on duty with England at Euro 2024 and is in contention to face Slovakia in the round of 16 tie in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

But despite his elevation to the senior England team since making a £45 million ($57m) transfer from Everton to Newcastle in January 2024, a source has told ESPN that the St James' Park club have approached Liverpool about a deal that would see Gordon move to Anfield in a part-exchange deal involving Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah.

The 21-year-old became a first-team regular in Jurgen Klopp's final season as Liverpool manager and earned a call-up for England's provisional squad for Euro 2024 before failing to make the final travelling party.

However, Liverpool have rejected Newcastle's proposal with a source saying that while the club admire Gordon as a player, they have no immediate plans to strengthen the attacking department of their squad.

It has also been made clear to Newcastle that Liverpool have no interest in offloading Quansah, who is a player that incoming manager Arne Slot rates highly as part of his senior squad.

ESPN approached Newcastle for comment for this story.
