Solskjaer cool on Pogba absence

Manchester United hope to have midfield ace Paul Pogba fit and available for their Premier League opener against Chelsea next weekend.

The 26-year-old France international, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, sat out the friendly against AC Milan on Saturday due to a slight knock.

He should be okay (for Chelsea), I would hope so anyway.

However, head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down the absence of Pogba and was positive about having his player ready for the domestic season opener at Old Trafford on Sunday 11th August.

He told the club's official website: "Paul will probably be back early next week in training. It's not an injury, just some pain. I spoke to him after training and he didn't feel right.

"He's not injured, but I wasn't going to risk anything this weekend. He should be okay (for Chelsea), I would hope so anyway."

Pogba, who returned to United from Juventus in the summer of 2016, enjoyed a fine season last term, scoring 13 goals in 35 Premier League appearances - which was enough to earn him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League standings, while in the Champions League they reached the quarter-finals, where they were beaten 4-0 on aggregate by Barcelona.

United are available at 11/10 to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season, while they are 11/10 to make a winning start to the campaign against Chelsea, with the draw priced at 23/10.
