With just seven games to go and a 10 point-gap established at the top, should Rivers United be crowned NPFL Champions already?

Rivers United have been incredible this season, registering 20 wins, 7 draws and just 4 losses in 31 games of this campaign. They have scored the most number of goals (51) and conceded the least number of goals (17) in the league with a superior goal diffsrence of +34.

Rivers United opened a 10-point lead in the Nigeria Professional Football League after beating nearest challengers Plateau United 2-0 in their matchday 31 fixture in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Stanley Eguma’s side are now closer to winning a first NPFL title with seven games remaining before the end of the campaign.

River United were awarded a penalty in the 32nd following a foul on Chijoke Akuneto. The former MFM striker dusted himself up to put his side ahead with Suraj Ayeleso going the wrong way. Akuneto scored the second eight minutes from time to put the game beyond the visitors. Rivers United will be hoping to continue this great form throughout the remainder of the season. They face Wikki Tourist next on Sunday, June 5 at the Abubakar Tafewa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi State.

Plateau United are now without a win in their last five away games and will need a great performance and some luck if they are to take away the Nigeria Professional Football League Title from Rivers United.
