SHOCKER: Players of cash-strapped Okwahu United go AWOL, days before league starts
Okwahu United in financial distress

The crisis in Okwahu United has hit the roof top after players parked baggage and left camp, just five days before the start of the Ghana Division One League.

The former Premier League campaigners are in financial turmoil, leading to the resignation of the entire board members en block on Monday.

The players have followed suit and parked their bags to various destinations with their whereabouts unknown.

Players are owed salaries running into several months with the direction of the club in a limbo.

Distressed coach Sarfo Castro finds himself in the wilderness and reveals only THREE players are in camp to work with.

"There are only three players in camp currently and it is a great source of worry to me as the coach of the club,” he told Happy FM

“We have a league game on Saturday and we needed to keep our shape for the league in our bid to qualify for the Premier Division but this development will make things extremely difficult for us.

“We have a very good crop of players currently and it will be a disaster if we lose these players. We have put together a very fine team capable of qualifying for the Premier Division so we don't want to lose them. It is sad Okwahu United, with so many supporters, has come down to this. There is no money for the players and that is the reason they have all left.”

The sorry state of United has shocked many as there are many affluent Ghanaians who claim to hold allegiance to the club.

The club has tried to qualify back to the elite division on a number of times without success since they got demoted few years ago.

The Division One League starts this weekend with the Ghana FA expected to unveil indigenous enterprise  GN Bank as new sponsor on Wednesday.
