Shakhtar’s possession fails to break Champions League deadlock against Sporting CP

Published on: 03 November 2026

Shakhtar Donetsk and Sporting CP were level at 0-0 in the 44th minute of a tightly contested fourth-day UEFA Champions League fixture.

The Ukrainian side had enjoyed more of the ball during the opening period, recording 56% possession and winning the corner count 3-1.

However, Sporting CP looked the more threatening team in attack despite having only 44% possession. The Portuguese club registered four shots on target, compared with two from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Neither side was able to turn its first-half control or chances into a goal, leaving the match finely balanced at the break. Both teams will need to be more clinical after half-time if they are to claim victory.
