Stuck at Chelsea for some time, the Italian star Davide Zappacosta managed to get his career back on track with a temporary move to Genoa last season. His performances with the Serie A club were enough to help his stock in his country, to the point where Atalanta were keen on a permanent transfer, which went through last August.
The Bergamo outfit paid Chelsea around £8 million for the 29-year-old defender, who signed a four-year deal with his former club, having previously played for La Dea between 2011 and 2015.
He is thrilled at the move, one Davide wanted from June onwards, saying as much to an Italian daily newspaper L’Eco di Bergamo, cited by Fiorentina Uno.
Zappacosta said: “After Genoa-Atalanta last May, I had spoken with the president and he had told me that, in case of a possibility, he would gladly take me to Bergamo.
“In June, I told my agent that, in the event of multiple offers, Atalanta would be my priority. I chose them for a number of factors”.
He goes onto explain that Gian Piero Gasperini’s style of play intrigued him and that he does not think Fiorentina, whom he rejected to return to his new club, will be bitter about the decision.
