In the Conference League playoff second leg, it was Roma who came out as the victors against Tranzbonspor to advance to the group stages.
The giallorossi left little doubt on who was the better side tonight, dominating posession and play from start to finish. Mourinho started the match with the same 11 men that trounced Fiorentina 3-1 this past weekend, and the formula seemed to work again for the Portuguese, as Roma produced a resounding 3-0 result.
After a bit of a slow start that saw the Italians dominate possession and their Turkish counterparts defend and try to hit on the counter, it was men from the Italian capital that struck first in the 20th minute, thanks to Bryan Cristante low shot from the outside of the box that found the net. With the aggregate on 3-1, Roma kept trying to find Tammy Abraham in space with long passes, but Tranzbonspor held their ground, and aside from a couple of Pellegrini chances, the half ended with the same scoreline.
In the second half, with Tranzbonspor forced to go on the attack given their dire situation, we saw a more open match, with dangerous play from both sides. The Turks came close to leveling the match from a corner kick, but the subsequent header saw a great save from Rui Patricio. Roma responded with a clear-cut chance from Abraham on a counter, but the striker's header unfortunately found the post for the giallorossi. Former Napoli man Marek Hamsik once again came close to a score for Tranzsborspor, but his volley was again saved by Rui Patricio. This was just the prelude to Roma's second goal, which came in the 65th minute, when Nicolo Zaniolo received a long ball from the back by Mancini, shielded it from a defender and struck it with power and precision to beat the Turkish goalkeeper and make it 2-0 for Roma, putting the match out of reach for Tranzsborspor.
El Sharaawi added the wolves' third goal of the match and their fourth on agrregate to seal the deal in the closing minutes, and Roma are now headed to the newly-minted COnference Leage, where they will be one of the favorites to win it.
