Serie A Player of the Week | Round 9

Published on: 01 December 2020

On the weekend in which Serie A paid tribute to former Napoli captain Diego Maradona, it was somewhat fitting that Lorenzo Insigne gave a match winning display for the Partenopei against Roma to be named Player of the Week for Round 9.

During a 4-0 victory over the Giallorossi, the equally diminutive current Napoli captain scored one goal and assisted another at the Stadio San Paolo, which will shortly be renamed in honour of the man who took them to two Scudetto in the late eighties.

The 29-year-old opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a freekick that the Argentinean himself would have been proud of and then provided the final pass for Fabian Ruiz to add a second from range.

With the home side wearing an Argentina inspired kit, the occasion had clearly motivated Insigne, as he terrorised the visitors and helped his club leapfrog the Romans into 5th place in the Serie A standings.
