As reported by Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are set to unveil a new Maradona statue just outside the stadium on July 29th.

The city council just gave the OK for the ceremony to take place, as the unveiling will also mark the formal occasion where the stadium will be renamed from Stadio San Paolo to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The pitch had already been referred to as "Diego Maradona" after the Argentine star died in 2020, although it was still formally named San Paolo.

Maradona played with Napoli from 1984 to 1991, helping the partenopei to their most successful spell in their history, in which they won their only two Serie A titles, a UEFA Cup, a Coppa Italia and an Italian SuperCup. El Pibe de Oro appeared in 257 matches for Napoli, scoring 115 goals in the process.
